Yorkville Transition Program provides the opportunity for District 115 to implement a continuum of services for students who are 18-22 years old and who receive specialized instruction based on individual student needs in the areas of functional, daily living, and vocational job skills. Yorkville Transition Program will focus on an individualized and rigorous curriculum to meet the unique needs of our students and provide the foundation they need to grow and be productive, contributing members of our community.
YTP Guiding Principles
Our program aims to support students in achieving greater independence and success in their post-school lives by equipping them with the necessary skills for adulthood. To create an engaging and supportive environment for 18-22-year-old students to be successful in their community post-high school, YTP focuses on a multifaceted approach to transition education in the areas below:
-
Workforce Readiness: Helps students develop skills necessary for employment, including vocational training, job placements, and internships. The focus is on teaching practical job skills and work habits.
-
Independent Living Skills: Students learn life skills, such as budgeting, cooking, cleaning, personal care, and time management. These skills are crucial for living independently and managing daily responsibilities.
-
Community Engagement: Programs often include activities that help students engage with their community, like volunteering or participating in recreational activities, which also build social and interpersonal skills.
-
Social Skills Development: It provides a supportive environment for students to practice and enhance social skills, helping them form relationships and navigate social situations.
-
Post-secondary Education or Training: Some students may explore further education or specialized training, and the program can provide support in making that transition.
-
Self-Advocacy and Goal Setting: Students are encouraged to develop self-advocacy skills, learn how to set and work towards goals, and become more independent in making decisions.
